A former Executive Director of the California State Board of Equalization (predecessor to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration), Jim’s comprehensive experience includes audits in the manufacturing, hospitality, publishing, airline, motion picture, leasing, and entertainment industries.
Jim served for over thirty-two years at the Board where he also held positions as the Board’s San Francisco District Principal Auditor, the San Francisco District Administrator, the Chief of Field Operations, the Deputy Director for the Property Taxes Department and the Deputy Director for the Sales and Use Tax Department. In addition, Jim worked as a trainer and speaker, providing education and a unique upper management perspective of the Board’s operations and processes.
Outside of government, Jim’s SALT projects included a multistate tax department document and workflow solution, and a beverage deposit and tax solution. In addition, he has twelve years’ experience in audit defense work.
Jim earned a degree in Accounting from San Francisco State College.
